Jorge Bio

Born in Michoacán Mexico, Jorge Macswiney discovered painting at the age of eight, beginning a lifelong exploration of color, texture, and imagination. Largely self-driven as an artist, Jorge immersed himself in art throughout his school years, taking every class available and earning recognition through numerous school competitions, including the national Wyland Seascape mural contest in 1999. His artistic passion led him to workshops and figurative drawing studies at ArtCenter College of Design, where dedication outweighed distance — often commuting hours by bus to attend a single class.

Macswiney’s work is distinguished by his inventive approach to materials and technique. He predominantly works with modified filbert synthetic brushes, cutting into the bristles with a blade to create irregular gaps that produce a distinctive dry-brush effect without relying on traditional dry-brush methods. He also incorporates texture by mixing fibers with heavy mediums using a palette knife, creating layered surfaces that add depth and movement to his paintings.

Drawing inspiration from wildlife, fantasy, and emotional storytelling, Macswiney creates luminous works filled with bold color harmonies and expressive brushwork. His subjects range from majestic animals to ethereal figures and dream-like landscapes, blending the natural world with imagination in ways that feel both powerful and intimate. Through his paintings, he seeks to evoke awe, serenity, and human connection, inviting viewers into worlds where beauty and mystery coexist.

Based in Las Vegas, where he has lived with his wife, four children, and their longtime rescue cat for the past decade, Macswiney continues to develop a body of work rooted in curiosity, experimentation, and emotion. A descendant of an Irish clan with a storied and unusual history, he brings a deeply personal sense of identity and narrative into every artwork he creates.
